The Wangaratta Aerodrome’s new and improved facilities were officially opened on 6 December 2021, boosting the region’s tourism, business and emergency response potential.
Councillor Dean Rees, Mayor of Wangaratta was joined by Senator the Hon. Bridget McKenzie, Minister for Emergency Management and National Recovery and Resilience, and Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education in officially opening the commercial hanger.
“The completion of this project is a win for the Rural City of Wangaratta,” said Cr Rees.
“The new commercial hanger, higher-capacity taxiway for larger aircraft and the improvement of existing services such as the upgrade to firefighting capability benefit our entire region.”
The project was jointly funded between the Rural City of Wangaratta contributing $634, 788 and the Australian Government through the Regional Jobs and Investment Packages program which contributed $413,500.
Sixteen jobs were supported in the construction phase of this project, with seven ongoing jobs created as a result.
The Rural City of Wangaratta is proud to support the aviation industry of north east Victoria and the development of regionally significant infrastructure.
